Welcome to the home of the reddit college football poll!

The r/cfb poll is released at or around 8pm each Monday at r/cfb.

Rankings are everything and nothing in college football. Nothing because, until that final BCS poll, they don’t mean anything at all. Everything because rankings are how the sport determines who will play for its national championship. Last year, in addition to the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll, the fans of college football were given a voice, a chance to have *their* say in who should be #1. Through the college football subreddit, twenty-five lucky voters were chosen, their ballots painstakingly counted by hand, and the results posted for discussion. Thus the reddit college football poll was born.

What separates the r/cfb poll from the national polls? Well, firstly, it’s voted on by fans of the game, who watch far more games than any head coach could ever hope to see. Secondly, and more importantly, it is completely transparent. Anyone who is so inclined can view every ballot, every week, and then voice their opinions directly to the pollsters themselves through r/cfb (alternately, one may click on their username on this site which will take you directly to the reddit user page of the voter). This allows for a level of accountability the ‘real’ polls just can’t claim.

This year, we have almost four times as many voters, from Carolina to California, itching to have their voices heard. We have an excellent new platform and have streamlined the experience. Through the hard work of reddit user and r/cfb poll voter redbenn ballots will now be submitted via web, and tallied automatically. He is responsible for all you see here [and any bugs, too :)].

With so many ballots in 2011, it will be a lot harder to scour the ballots to look for points of contention. To that end, sirgippy, another voter and r/cfb regular, has graciously donated his time to making an extremely useful spreadsheet which should make it much easier to spot outliers and go a long way toward facilitating discussion.

In addition to hosting the poll, rcfbpoll.com

will offer a platform for fans to have their voices heard.
